Quick Win

Staying hydrated with water rather than soda is an important part of everyday health.

Try This Today

  • Infuse it. Fill a pitcher with water and drop in berries and lemons or limes, or sliced cucumbers with herbs.
  • Splash in some juice. Add a tiny pour of fruit juice into sparkling water for a fun fizzy drink.
  • Make flavored ice cubes. Add berries, mint or basil to water in an ice cube tray. Cool off your H2O with these zesty cubes.

Why

Water is your best option for staying hydrated. In a 2020 report from the Framingham Heart Study, a long-running study of more than 5,100 people who are regularly surveyed about their health, participants with the highest intake of sugary beverages had a higher risk of dementia than those who drank no sugary beverages. A separate study of 1,484 people over age 60 reported in 2017 in Stroke found a link between diet sodas and dementia risk. Finding healthy ways to enhance the flavor of your water may help you look forward to your next sip.
