The baked pears in this easy fruit dessert recipe simply bake in a sauce of Marsala wine mingled with honey, orange, cinnamon and vanilla. Serve the pears warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or with a small sugar cookie.

Prep/Cook Time: 1:30 Hours, Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup Marsala wine
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • ½ cup honey
  • 3 strips orange zest (3-inch)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 4 firm ripe Bosc or Anjou pears, halved lengthwise and cored

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Whisk wine, water and honey in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Add orange zest and cinnamon stick. Split vanilla bean, scrape out the sticky black seeds with the tip of a small, sharp knife and add them and the pod to the baking dish. Place the pears cut-side down in the baking dish.
  3. Bake, basting every 15 minutes or so with the wine mixture, until the pears are very tender, 1 to 1¼ hours. Serve the pears warm, drizzled with the sauce.
