Martin Yan Recipe

The pairing of apple and shrimp may sound unconventional to some, but it is a tasty one. Discovering new combinations of ingredients and trying old things in a new way can help keep your mind invigorated. So dive in, and try and do that today with this recipe.

The chili garlic sauce can be salty and spicy, and contains garlic, ginger, soybeans and sometimes sesame oil. You can find numerous versions to experiment with — choose the one that has the best balance of spiciness and flavor for your taste.

Prep/Cook Time: 25 Minutes

Ingredients

Dressing

  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili garlic sauce

Salad

  • 3 cups mixed salad greens
  • 12 medium-size cooked shrimp
  • 1 green apple, cut into matchsticks (about 2 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped mint leaves
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the dressing ingredients; stir until well mixed.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the salad greens and 2 tablespoons of the dressing; toss to evenly coat. Arrange the greens on a serving plate.
  3. In the same bowl, place the shrimp, apple and mint. Add the remaining dressing and toss. Arrange on top of the greens. Garnish with the sunflower seeds and serve.
